Pennsylvania Probate and Estate Administration
In general, probate and estate administration involves identifying all of a decedent's assets and liabilities, paying debts, filing taxes and disbursing inheritance among beneficiaries. However, there is much more to the process from a legal standpoint that I can help you with, including:
- Admitting the will to the Probate Court and resolving any will contests
- Obtaining valid appointment from the court as the personal representative
- Making all required notifications (via mail and legal notice publication)
- Re-titling assets into the name of the estate and filing inventory
- Resolving estate disputes with known creditors and paying valid debts
- Preparing and filing state and federal estate taxes (paying taxes when applicable)
- Disbursing remaining assets to beneficiaries in accordance with the will (or, if there was not a will, in accordance with Pennsylvania intestacy statutes)
- Closing the estate
